Air Guitar is really sad- plus some exciting soccer news!

i am writing this from the rooftop of the arclight, where i have been stationed for the past six days. it's all because of the afi film festival. at the moment, as i edit the last of my photos for the day i am plagued by the sound of bad metal music and the drunken cheers of people who are currently performing "air-eoke", which is basically a person playing an air guitar to a song of his or her choosing. I am stone cold sober and have decided that this whole thing really blows. here is what happens
when i tried to shoot these people...





i mean, if you had not just read the description above, what would you make of these people? Spastic? Angry? Having an emotional outburst? Violent Dance??? And all of this to Judas Priest, Guns 'n Roses, and MEATLOAF(ick!).

It just seems like people are really grasping at straws with this whole trying to be ironic thing. When will folks realize and accept that somethings are just bad taste and tacky? Playing an air guitar is really dumb. It only worked when Bill and Ted did it back in the early nineties...and at that point it was poking fun at adolescent wannabe rockstars. i really don't think that the hipsters, who are making a sport of this flailing cry for attention, see it that way. anyway... enough of the negative.
